Desperate Housewife

This morning Roy left for a 15 day trip to Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Thailand. I am alone. With two kids. For 15 days. 24/7!!!! It seems like an eternity, but I have to remind myself that women do it all the time. I can't imagine sending my husband off to war for months at a time. Those are some strong ladies. I couldn't do it. No matter how many times Roy goes out of town, I hate it and many tears are shed at his departure. Be strong, Donna. Be strong. Deep breath.

So, I'll be taking part in some serious playdates in the next two weeks. I've already started to paint our laundry room this morning, I want to clean out some closets and maybe partake in a little catch up scrapbooking. And, listen. Do you hear that? It's the sound of Virginia calling my name! "Don---na! Don----nna! You're husband's out of town! Bring the children and come stay with Mommy and Daddy!!" I figured since Roy was out of town, we might as well spend Father's Day with MY favorite Daddy in the whole world:)
Speaking of celebrating Father's Day, last night the kids and I threw a little shabang for our Daddy since he won't be here for the actual holiday. Caroline and I made him a banner:

Then we made one of his favorite meals....a turkey dinner with fixins' to go along.

Then we gave him a few surprises, including the above bath salts for my bath-loving man.

Caroline took it upon herself to help Roy out by opening his gifts for him. She would open it and get all excited and say "OHHH! Look, Daddy! Isn't this nice?"

Then Roy took Caroline to get ice cream at Stonecrest. They have live bands there each weekend, so we sat and enjoyed some Brazilian music and had fun watching people:)

Caroline LOVED her vanilla ice cream with gummy bears...

...and dancing with Daddy....

...and loving on Daddy!

Roy Austin, on the other hand, was content just to kick back with a bottle.

Hopefully these next 15 days will go by quickly. My goal is to stay busy, so expect lots of blog posts!

I'll be thinking about ya. That's a long time to be by yourself with the kids. Hope time will fly and he'll be back before you know it. You gave him a good send-off, and I know he appreciated that. Looking forward to lots of posts!

You can do it, Donna. We believe in you! Tell yourself, "I am a strong woman, I am a strong woman."

I know you must be bummed. I do empathize but I'm glad you had a little celebration before he went. I bet that made his day. I didn't realize how much Caroline looked like her Daddy until I saw them side by side in one of those pictures. RA's eyes are SO BLUE in that last picture. So cute!

I'm here at Dawn's house and we are waiting for her delisious chicken dinner to get out of the oven so I decided to check blogs on her computer. I just read your post to everyone and they enjoyed it. The REAL props go to Dayna for being without Juette for 9 months! Now SHE'S a strong woman. Can't wait til you get here next week.

And I can't wait, either. I miss you all so much. Those children are getting so big and growing so fast. Thanks for posting all those great pictures. Keep them coming....we all love to see your beautiful family. See you soon. ILY

I hate the feeling of goodbyes, its the anticipation that kills me! And then I cry for hours. I am such a wimp! Corey always tells me I wouldn't make a good Military wife!

I love that Roy is probably the only man who would enjoy getting bath salts. Corey doesn't even know what those are, but he would probably like them if I introduced him to it.

Oh and I would love to see Roy dance with Caroline, how precious. Just think before you know it he will be dancing the Father/Daughter dance(sorry that is probably a sad thought) Love you guys have some fun without DADDY!

I love the posts of your time out for ice cream and early Father's Day.

We close on our home tomorrow...Monday, the 9th. If you have some free time while Roy is away and want to swing by and go out for a coffee...even drive thru since you will have your kids please call me on my cell at 480.227.7430. Would love to see you and hear all about suggested places to frequent in Charlotte.

We flew from AZ yesterday and drove to SC last night and we are with my brother and his family until tomorrow when we close on the house.

Hope we can connect in person soon.

Caroline

I can't tell you how many times I make pancakes for dinner when Tim is on a trip. Dinner is one of those things that just goes out the door with Tim when he leaves. I'm with you on the projects and scrapbooking - good to keep busy. The evenings (for me) are the loneliest, when I'd love someone to talk to. And what I find (which is so not fair) is that the first 4 days or so are ok, and then the kids (and therefore I) turn a corner and they totally turn it up a few levels, acting out because he's gone. Hoping for a smooth and fast couple weeks for you!

Donna, I bet Roy felt SO special that you had an early Happy Father's Day party for him...you're a good wife! I just found out that Joshua has to leave for a MONTH in July...he has to go to Minneapolis for work. I don't have kids yet, but I KNOW major tears will be shed here. You're a strong one. :)

Donna, hope to get togehter for lunch some! Good idea to keep busy as I know you will and to see your family for Father's Day weekend! I don't like it either when Willie is gone on those 2 week mission trips! A lot of the times my parents or just my mom comes and stays with me and it is nice to have them there when I get home from work. They have definitely spoiled me in that way!
