Any Danielle Steele fans out there? I will admit that I like her books. Growing up the youngest of five girls, I had some older sisters who would read her books and I will admit that I snuck and read a few. Maybe Mom was too tired by the time I entered highschool to control my reading, or maybe she didn't know?! Anyway, I do like a good DS read on the beach in the summer time. It's like watching E Entertainment television...you don't have to think. It's mindless entertainment and a guilty pleasure!
Anyway, I like her movies, too. There was a great one on television last week (Zoya) and after we visited the Redbox on Saturday night, I saw that there was a new one out called Safe Harbour. (By the way, I love Danielle's titles for her books. They're so catchy). Roy picked one movie---Amazing Grace, which is good by the way-- and I picked the Danielle Steele movie. It had Melissa Gilbert in it (Half Pint for you fellow Little House fans). I put it in the DVD player yesterday and Roy suddenly appeared on the couch to watch it with me. He won't admit this, but he likes to watch these types of movies with me. (Please don't tease him!!) If I ever turn one of those Lifetime-type movies on, he will become engrossed in it right along with me! Once, when we were watching one of these movies, he had to go somewhere and he told me to tape the rest of it so he could finish it later!! Now anyone who's read Danielle Steele will agree that her books/movies are pretty predictable. That's what makes them so enthralling. In this movie, Melissa Gilbert's character gets shot in the lung, ovary and some other body part..I can't remember. Anyway, as she's lying on her hospital bed, her wonderfully loyal boyfriend is next to her side and ends up proposing to her. I said to Roy, "I bet she ends up pregnant by the end of the movie". My manly husband replied "If she ends up pregnant after having only one ovary, I'm never watching a Danielle Steele movie again!". I laughed so hard! This was his ultimatum. She didn't end up pregnant, but after marrying her boyfriend, they took the baby that belonged to her best friend, who died of cancer. Sniff, sniff. Shooo! I guess Roy will be watching Danielle Steele movies in the future with me.
Oh, and FYI, my first date was with a boy named Daniel Steele! Funny, huh?!

FTC - WOW! I am laughing at this post. You know your husband is going to kill you if he ever reads this. People might think he is a little on the metrosexual side. LOL! We visited Redbox several times in our afflictions this past week. I will have to check back and try this chick-flick.
Hey Donna, I have been a lurker for a couple of months, but had to comment on this post. You ARE so funny. My brother graduated from LCA with you, Matt Fallin. Anyway, one of my first dates was with Daniel's brother Ira. Matt did the hook up of course. Anyway, when I read that, I just had to post. We could have been sister n laws. Great post.
I love Danielle Steele too! Although I have to be in the right mood to watch one of her flicks. Reading one of her books at the beach is the best!
I agree with Kristi...Roy would kill you if he read this post! hahahahah!
Hi, Lori! I've lurked your blog once or twic myself. I had no idea that you were Kristen's cousin. Small world. I do remember Matt from highschool! Tell him I said hi.
Funny about the Steele boys. It's funny how you can go years w/out hearing someone's name and then something can be said to bring back that person's memory! Dolly, didn't Mary go on a date with Ira Steele?! LOL!
OK....so I knew that you were reading Danielle Steele books from time to time, but you girls ALL told me that they were good books (you know, moral, etc). Now,from what you said in your blog, I'm thinking that I was very foolish in not knowing for myself what you were reading. Were they the kind of books you'd want Caroline to read when she gets older? Just asking!!
Funny post! Danny is the same way. He gets "mad" at me for watching "made for TV movies." He likes them too he just won't admit it
Donna remember that time you and Roy were visiting us and that Lifetime movie came on about the man who murdered his wife in their bedroom. Anyway, both Danny and Roy were dawgin us about it and then just at the plot thickened they were BOTH beside us on the sofa WATCHING the movie. And then before we could go anywhere, THEY wanted to finished the movie.
Me like Danielle Steele too. Fine Things is my favorite. Then there's this one about "A Gift" (of course its a baby.)
BTW mom, the books have LOVE and you know what in it. I will admit, the first time I read one, I had to research what DS meant when she wrote of the words about you know what.
Denise, I KNOW what word you had to research! I'm LOL right now!!! Yes, Mom. The books just had a lot of lovin' in them. Fine Things is one of my favorites, too. She also wrote one that had to do w/ the Titanic. The good thing about DS is you can finish one of her books in a day sometimes. Mom now that you're an emtpy nester, you should look into some of her books! And by the way, I will not let Caroline read DS until she's in college!!!!
Mom, LOL that you thought we said that DS's books were "moral"!!!! Sorry that I gave you that impressions:)
girls, girls, i can't believe you decieved your mother like that. for shame!
donna, what song is on your blog? it's really cute.
nevermind...i just googled it. the artist is ingrid michaelson. i like her!
how do you get the music on your blog?
embarrassing...me again.
but i love this ingrid girl...
you must check her out. there are lots of songs/videos on youtube and i realized where i've heard her before:
grey's anatomy!
by the way, when are all our shows coming back??
Donna, I bet you think Fabio is hot too - don't you?
You guys are nuts! Your mom is hilarious - could she not tell the books were a little risque by the half dressed men and women on the cover? :)
Don is the same way - he's a sucker for a good love story and I will find him watching the E Channel when I'm not in the room-who doesn't love a True Hollywood Story!
Love the Half Pint comment - I was a HUGE Little House fan. In fact, still have all the books and read them a few years back. I even have the Little House cookbook where half the things are made with "maple."
Jennifer, Danielle's books don't have those bad covers. They're not terribly bad love stories, either. Try one. You might like it!
Also, I have the entire Little House collection on DVD. Roy is a huge fan of those, too! Seriously! We watch them at night sometimes.
Teecy-if you want to put music on your blog, go to www.playlist.com.
That is just wrong to talk about Half-Pint and Danielle Steele in the same breath. God rest Laura's soul.
I must say that I am a little shocked at the behavior that is coming from the Reber girls. I didn't know you all were into soft-core pornography. LOL!
I am laughing about Roy watching lifetime!! Hilarious! If Mitchell knew this he would rag him for life! Never read DSteele, but at Mitchell's grandparents place at the beach, Mamaw has a huge collection, maybe I should try one.
Okay, LOL at the thought of Mamaw reading Danielle Steele!
Hey, after making fun of Mitchell and his obession over Keanu Reeves, he needs some material to make fun of others about:)
