Waiting for a Laugh...

Okay, I'll admit it. I'm a blog lurker. None of us wants to admit that we do it, and we laugh and roll our eyes at the thought of people lurking at our blogs, but we all do it! My sister calls it being an "URR" (under radar reader). I prefer to call it a LURRker.

Anyway, when I get bored I usually read my friends' blogs for the tenth time that day and then sometimes their friends' blogs! I know about people's lives who I've never met! How weird--and almost creepy--is that?! Then I start to think, who knows and is reading about our life? Weird.

So, the other day I was lurking around in the blog world and came to my friend, Chrystal's, blog. I must have been bored because I then ventured over to "her friends" and clicked on Anna's blog, where I was inspired with the cutest idea ever...A Laugh Jar! Huh?, you say? I said a laugh jar. Basically it's a jar that sits in your home (in our home, it's the kitchen) and when your child says or does something funny, you write it down on a piece of paper, including the date, and place it in the jar. If you ever need a laugh--and let's face it, we all do from time to time-- you pull out a piece of paper and read a funny story. At the end of the year, you can go through all the stories and have yourself a good ol' laugh session. I started mine today and unfortunately Caroline and her brother haven't done anything funny. If only I had this jar back in June when this happened:

Just saw your side bar and the linke to the book site. Funny title. BTW, shutterfly.com has 20% off on photo/memory books until Jan. 15. I am making a Christmas memory book. Just upload pix, drag to spot and type in words. GREAT!

That is a great idea! I also am a LURRKER when I am bored and need to kill some time! It is fun! I actually found this lady who's husband is serving in Iraq and committed to pray for them until his return in 8 months! Random, I know!

I don't think it's creepy that you obsessively read peoples' blogs that you've never met. Oh wait, I do that...that's probably why I think it's normal! Love this idea. We have a similar idea with Christmas ornaments. We take friendship balls and rather than put little things in them and pass back and forth, we write about whatever the girls are into that year and then label with the year and a ribbon.

This reminds me of Monster's Inc. Great idea! I wonder what other ideas we could steal from other random bloggers.

Hey, I'm surprised you young mothers having so much "down" time. I am an empty nester, and I don't have much free time myself. I must admit, though,I do love to go to peeps blogs and read them. I guess I'm a lurker, too. I only comment once in a while, though, so.....you just never know when I might be lurking on your blogs! BTW, the laugh jar is a great idea. All of you need to get one going.

i might have something you can add to the laugh jar, but it needs verification: mom said that at the wedding, after a prayer...maybe after communion?...anyways, the pastor said 'amen' and THEN a little girl in the audience repeated, "amen," and the wedding crowd really gotta a hoot...well, whoEVER's child it was, it's certainly 'laughjar worthy':)

What a great idea!!

Joy, that "amen" was said by Quinn. He is a mess!

Donna!! Thanks girl! I love that you like the idea and now your family can enjoy this.
One of the funny comments we read on Dec. 31st was from my seven year old, then he was 6. We were shucking corn on the back porch in Boone and he said, "Wow Mom, this one must be a girl, cause she has a lot of hair." Isn't that a hoot?
I also check other blogs for cool ideas and the comfort of knowing that there ARE other mommies out there living through these everyday moments.

Donna, Just saw Han's comment on Zumba.....did you go to the class at Carmel? My friend Robbye teaches it and I'm starting back next week. I enjoyed it the few times I went last year. If that's not the class you went to, then just ignore this. :O)

Love the laugh jar idea. Hope I remember to do this when Sarah is old enough.
Thanks Denise for the heads up on shutterfly. I will be checking that out for sure!

Hey, Ashleigh. I'm starting to take a pilates class at Carmel with some friends. I told Hannah about the Zumba class b/c I heard it was a fun dance class. I think if I took it, I'd be laughing the whole time. Is it fun? It would be fun to go and blog about it!

Zumba is a fun one! You should come one night and check it out. Some of the moves do make you laugh a little but it's still a good workout. :o) Carmel has some great classes very reasonably priced!! Let me know if you are heading to Zumba one night and I'll look for ya. I wish that they offered pilates in the evening....

Fun Idea! It made me laugh because (well, because it's a laugh jar, but...) I had decided to use my fabulous MOPS journal as a similar tool. I want to keep it in the kitchen and just record things that AK says or does as she grows. I may have to get a jar now though!
