1. After we pulled out of our neighborhood, the DVD player in the backseat decided to freeze much to Caroline's dismay, so I pulled to the side of the road and restarted Peter Pan only for her to decide she wanted to watch Beauty and the Beast instead. Ten minutes later, we were back on the road.
2. Thirty minutes later, she informed me that she had to go potty. I pulled over at the first exit I saw and unloaded her and Roy Austin (in his carseat) into an Arby's. All three of us piled into the handicapped stall and took care of business. Thankfully, it was a clean bathroom!
3. About 1.5 hours later I realized that it was about time to feed the baby and Caroline would be getting hungry, too. We were reaching Greensboro so I got off on a busy exit thinking there'd have to be some restaurants around. Wrong. I ended up 30 minutes off course, with a self guided first class tour of the ghetto section of Greensboro and the downtown area with not one restaurant in sight! I also missed my exit to get back on the highway TWICE and came close to frustrated tears, but told myself to laugh at the situation. Luckily, the kids did great! I finally found an Arby's (the restaurant of the day), got us lunch and sat in the backseat to feed the baby, while we watched Finding Nemo.
We finally pulled into Lynchburg around 2:30--over 4.5 hours after our departure. Caroline was so excited to get to Grammy and Grandaddy's house that she did not take a nap all day and she was a wreck by that evening. It feels great to be home and it's always such a comforting place to return to. This weekend we are going to try to go see a musical at LU, take the girls to see "Enchanted", enjoy Daddy's famous Saturday morning pancake breakfast and go see the annual Living Christmas Tree!
Dawn, Dolly and I have had "kitchen duty" together since about 1985. We have had our share of fights--physical and verbal-- (oh, the stories I could tell), sing-alongs and fun talks during the years of these dish sessions.
Speaking of baby, Dolly pulled double duty tonight helping to clean the kitchen AND hold Roy Austin. Cute passie, Dolly. Real cute.
