I tried and tried to get Roy to let me take his picture before he went into surgery. We got into the surgical ward around 7:00 and he had to get into a gown, wear the white shower cap, put on some cute little blue booties and have an IV inserted into his hand. I explained what a nice addition the picture would add to my blog post. I begged...until he reminded me that I will be in the same position in 31 days. Now, I realize that Roy wouldn't know how to get into our blog site, or how to post pictures, but I had an instant flashback of 2 and a half years ago when I had Caroline and the many pictures we had taken in the hospital. I honestly thought I looked skinny in my new blue pajamas. I had the idea that most of my baby weight was gone and I looked GOOD. It wasn't until I got home and looked through my camera, that I realized how HUGE I really looked just plopped there on that bed holding my prized baby. My face and legs were so swollen from the IV's and I kind of resembled a chubby Papa Smurf. Yikes! Okay, bad flashback. So I stopped asking to take Roy's picture and just sat there like a good wife.
Roy did great! We were in pre-op and he was being his normal self--making the nurses laugh with his sarcastic, teasing humor. He grimaced when they couldn't get the IV to go into his veins 3 times. The doctor came in and explained the procedure and what to expect later this week and then he was wheeled off to surgery! I waited, and waited, and waited and finally around 10:15 the doctor came and told me that Roy's septum was worse off than he originally thought, so the surgery was a little longer than expected. The doctor said he'll feel like he got beat up for the next three days--OUCH! I was allowed back around 11:15 and all I can say is: Poor Roy! He was sitting there like a vegetable, just staring. It was pretty pitiful. We sat there for about 30 minutes and then I got him dressed. I had to drive really slow all the way home so I wouldn't jerk him around too badly. I don't think I went over 40 the entire ride!
He is resting in the guest room, all propped up on pillows. I have to change the gauze under his nose every 30 minutes or so. Good thing blood doesn't bother me because it's a pretty nasty sight. At least I'm getting prepared for getting up in the middle of the night again. I'll be doing it tonight for sure:) Thank you to everyone who's called or e-mailed to check on him and told us you're praying for him. It really does mean a lot to both of us!
It's actually pretty relaxing right now. Caroline is in Boone, Roy's asleep and it's just me and my precious dog, Maggie. We have no schedule and nowhere to go, so tonight we'll have an appointment on the couch with the TV and remote and we'll pick up where Dancing With the Stars left off last night. I have to admit, I'm surprisingly liking the Cheetah Girl, Sabrina, but I can't wait to see what Wayne Newton brings to that floor tonight.
I'll keep you posted.

Poor Roy! Good thing he has a great wife to take care of him. I'm sure he'll be glad he had the surgery once he is breathing better too. That was a hilarious flashback!
I'm so glad that everything went smoothly today. I've been praying for both of you! We'll miss you tomorrow night at Bible study.
Glad everything went good with Roy's surgery...I prayed for him yesterday. I bet he loves having Dr. Donna by his side...if he's anything like Joshua, he'll probably milk it for all its worth. ha :)
Can you please put on a nurse's suit the next time you go in there to change out his gauze?!??!
I'm glad you liked the Lentil Casserole! It's just some good comfort food....good for the soul!
P.S we prayed for YOU (and Roy too) at Bible Study this morning. We were trying to decide who needed it more. :)
Thanks! Actually, Roy has acted better than I thought he would. He's been very quiet. I think he's the silent sufferer type:) He feels better today, but his nose is a little on the swollen side!
Poor Roy. We will keep him in our prayers. and you! enjoy the quiet moments. Just a few weeks till Roy Austin!
Glad Roy is doing well! You're so brave cleaning bloody gauze, I don't know if i could do it! hope his recovery is quick and as painless as possible.
